Monel:  Monel is a Nickel-Copper alloy. (67% nickel 30% copper, plus trace elements)  It has good corrosion resistance, and high-strength properties.  Applications for Monel include marine engineering, boilers, tanks, valves, and pumps.  It is para-magnetic; meaning it is attracted to a magnet, but will not adhere.  It is normally not plated, but can be cadmium & chromate plated per QQ-P-416 under certain specifications.  It is not heat-treated.  It is a very expensive material, due to the nickel content.  Head mark on MS20615 and NAS1200M series only, is an indented double dimple.

Solid:  A solid rivet is a one-piece rivet that is used to hold critical parts together, and contributes to the strength of the structure. Examples would be a rivet holding aluminum metal panels to the frames of an aircraft fuselage, or a rivet holding steel panels to the frames of a truck body.

Solid Rivets:  Solid rivets come in a wide variety of materials, head styles, and sizes, and are an ideal fastener to use where high strength, and a permanent tamper-proof joint are required.

Pop:  Break-mandrel Blind Rivets. (“pop” rivets) A blind rivet is a two-piece fastener consisting of a rivet body (sometimes called a “sleeve”) and the setting device called a mandrel. (or, stem or nail) A blind rivet is used where access to a joint is limited to one side. (You cannot “see” the other side of the joint, therefore it is “blind”) A blind rivet is set by pulling the mandrel head into the rivet body, expanding the rivet body and causing it to flare against the reverse side. As the head of the mandrel reaches the face of the blind side of the material, and at a pre-determined force, the mandrel will snap at the break point of the mandrel. The rivet body forms a tight joint, the head of the mandrel remains encapsulated in the blind side, and the mandrel stem is ejected.
